Today was major sightseeing day! I’m the acting tour guide for Megan and her friends while they are in Florence. I’m happy to say that I finally have this city figured out and can get all around town without getting lost! To put this in perspective, I use to walk an average of about 8 miles a day and now walk about 4 miles… I’m not even going anywhere different, I use to just get that lost.
First stop was the Uffizi gallery, but the ticket office to buy Uffizi Friends passes didn’t open till 10am, so I whipped out my Rick Steve’s guide to Florence (aka the best and most useful book ever), and took the girls to Santa Maria Novella Church. On the way, I made sure to get a picture of each with the Ponte Vecchio while it wasn’t crowded. I’ve now mastered the crowds of Florence, so I knew that we should take the ‘postcard’- type pictures before 11am when the crowds swarm this area. I hadn’t been to Santa Maria Novella yet, but I’m glad I got to-- it was really cool! They have a painting on the wall that was the first painting of that utilized 3D techniques, which was really neat to see.

After we went to the Uffizi, where we got in all the Italian art we need to see for a long time. It was my second time back here, but I was happy to go again. Then we carried on to Gusta Pizza—aka the best pizza I have ever had. Literally all I get is the marinara pizza and it is amazing…not to mention cheep-- 4.50 euro for more food that is really necessary… not saying that I don’t totally eat it all anyways.

It was a nice and relaxing break before we headed onto Pitti Palace a block away. I had previously been to Pitti Palace, but didn’t see it all by any means, and even after this time through, still haven’t seen it all! We walked through some of the art gallery, but we had had our fill of Italian art, so we made a beeline to the royal apartments, which were incredible! It was fun going in the rooms with the girls—we just made up all sorts of scenarios of how we would use each room, which we had fun with (luckily the rooms were pretty deserted so we weren’t bothering too many other tourists). After the apartments we went to explore the Boboli gardens and found a nice patch of grass to pass out on. After what was quite possibly the best nap of my life, we grabbed gelato and I headed off to class!

In class we enlarged our pictures and made prints of our two favorites. Too bad they aren’t digital so I can’t put them on here! Then I had my wine tasting class (I only have it every Tuesday for two hours). I mean it’s a fun class, but I probably can’t tell you much about wine. I know that if I say that I can taste apples and pears in white wines, I will probably be right… although you can pretty much say that you taste anything in wine and my professor won’t debate you. At least not after tasting the seven different types of wine over a two hour period…
To continue on with my ridiculously long day, I met back up with Megan and one of her friends. We were about to go out with my roommates, and it began to pour! We decided to make it still a fun night, and headed to the bar on the corner of our street, Finnegan's.
